Hello:
I was diagnosed with symptoms of T almost three weeks ago, although I believe that I've had intermittent ringing in my ears (right one especially) for quite some time. It only got to the point that it was so loud that I finally had to see an ENT. I have read some of the threads and I hope that I can give some insight as to what has worked so well for me these past couple of weeks. I must say that the loudness of the ringing in my ears has lessened tremendously by doing just natural things. First, I totally changed my diet. I have eliminated caffeine, refined sugars and sugar substitutes (except for what is in my yogurt). I don't even chew gum anymore. I have also drastically reduced my sodium intake (have to have some sodium in the diet however to keep everything balanced), and reduced the saturated fats. I found a diet on-line especially good for Tinnitus. It is called the Mediterranean diet and it incorporates lots of fresh fruits and vegies, beans, nuts, cheese, eggs, yogurt, fish, poultry, some red meat, and olive oil. I also try to walk at least 2 miles each day and have started lifting light weights. Got to keep the blood circulating so that the oxygen gets to the all the right parts of the body. I try to avoid any loud noises and I now have my kids vaccum for me. I also take a multi-vitamin, have upped my B12, and take a fish oil capsule each day. I try to get at least 7-8 hours of sleep a night and I haven't been taking any over the counter meds or prescription meds that have irritated the T. At night, I sleep with a box fan on to help me concentrate on that noise instead of any ringing. Last but definitely not least is prayer. I have found great solace in prayer and I don't get stressed out if the ringing should be a little louder one day. I just commit it all to God. I can say that the T is not interfering with any of my daily activities as it was just a few short weeks ago. I just wanted to share a few things that I've tried and that really have been working. I wish the best to everyone! Posted on 07/27/09, 05:07 pm |

Thats amazing, OB. Thank you very much. As Attester said, that is all but a perfect blueprint for suffers to follow if only they would. Put away the gimmicks and ineffective treatments and just "live healthy and avoid (or ear plug) noise". Best post of the year in my opinion. Thank you.

Nicely worded. I always wanted to give the Med diet a try too. I just have to wean myself off those Weight Watchers ice creams first.
I would never say tinnitus is a blessing. But I would say tinnitus can create a dramatic mind shift that moves one from taking things for granted to centering your life on a new consciousness of health.

Amazing post, I believe in prayer as well and I do believe that has helped me also to have better days now. I find hard to give up my Prosciutto though, and of course my Coke, but I have done it before and didn't seem to change anything for my T. The long walks have worked too, and lately my fast paced job lately... anyways this is inspiring and while I read it, I can tell the peace that drives your life... that is awesome!!

Sometimes what helps me is eating ice cream, watching my favorite movies, and laughing about anything and everything. Also, I can't wait till my 5 yr old learns how to run a vacuum cleaner! =) I am so happy that you have found something that works for you!! God Bless, Becca

Becca,
I'm so glad that have redirected your attitude towards positive thinking and you are doing everything possible to cope with this T curse. Keep on doing things you enjoy, you deserve it! I'm having a very loud day, but have learned not to give in to T. I went bike riding today and hung out with family and friends. Even on the worst of days, I think to myself that habituation and better quality of life is right around the corner.

You all are awesome! I too treat myself once a week to a little bit of ice cream! Attester, I'll be praying for your ringing to tone down! Keep up the wonderful attitudes because how you approach T makes all the difference!

It's really is amazing; is that all you need is to understand what it takes to make you feel better living with this cronic condition.
For me, you and maybe everyone having a positive attitude, doing things that you enjoy or make you feel better ie ice cream, praying etc and avoiding triggers (loud noises, and sodium etc) will get you through this. The question I have, does anyone feel that most other cronic conditions can be dealt with in a similar fashion and alleviate the awful symptoms that they may produce?
