Permanent Ear damage?

I think I damaged my right ear from going to concerts and listening to loud music with earphones. I just hear this low pitch all the time where it is mildly silence. When I was working and there was no noise at all, the tinnitus was deafening. I couldn't tolerate it. Its even worse when I'm trying to sleep. I'm literally up at nights from it. Any of you have this problem? What do you do? Use sleeping pills?

Hi,
First off, sorry you got "the noise". Please stop listening to your music through earbuds or headphones. Invest in a pair of musician earplugs to wear to concerts. It is possible that the damage is temporary but it can take up to a year to determine. It depends on how loud and how much music you have exposed your ears to over the years. Night time is difficult and the best thing to do is mask it using a sound therapy machine or white noise cds. (you can find them on the internet). A short term therapy of sleep medication or anti anxiety medication can help you adjust as well. You will need to see your PCP or ENT for an evaluation too. It does get better, but only you can help the healing of your ear now by eliminating the buds and getting some earplugs. Remember, when you lose ear hairs they don't grow back. Best wishes, Mark

Hello Puppy, so sorry to find you here but like Winter said it still might go away. Many of us in early stages of the T have had sleep medications. I still have to take some every other day to be able to sleep. But I have found lately that walking long helps me with the anxiety and helps me to sleep too. Whatever is best for you my friend. Consult your ENT to search on possibilities and yes, from now and on never go to a concert without ear plugs as it may increase the damage in your ears. The T I have is like yours, deafening if I hear it without any sound in the background, but sometimes I just tell to myself is an outside noise and my brain doesn't pay attention too much. Something that might help you to sleep is white noise. You can google white noise and there are many mp3 for free that you could just download and play it softly when going to bed. If you can't find any white noise on the web I have some that I can send you, just drop me a note to my email and I will send it to you to your private email. I hope you can sleep tonight... Mich

Puppy dog, grab a good sound generator. It's worth the investment. I used mine for the first two years until I was able to ween away from it. And I still pull it out of the closet on occasion.
Get one from Sharper Images or Brookstone. I use the SoundSoother 50. It's no longer made but there are newer ones at Sharper Image. They are different than just portable radios. They fill a room without being loud. Read up on them.
