I recently had my ears unclogged do to a build up of wax. My tinnitus has been under control for the past 5 years and I very rarely noticing it. In fact even when clogged the noise was just a little louder than usual. The doctor used a syringe and Hydrogen peroxide for about an hour. This was yesterday and since then the noise I would say is a 9 out of 10 in loudness. Anyone have a similar experience and does the volume eventually subside. My stress level has gone up since this event and I am having trouble sleeping

Hi NeilH,
No one can really say if this will subside or stay the same. After decades of research from organizations there still isnt much info on Tinnitus causes and cures. Everyone is different and experiences tinnitus differently. Some people are lucky and it just goes away on its own. Some people are afflicted for life. You're just going to have to do the best you can. Make the best of your situation. . Good luck, Pat

Are you prone to stress and axiety in addition to the t? I am and I can tell you that the least amount of stress turns up my volume. I have only dealt with this level of t for about 9 months but so far for me, if it gets or seems to get louder it has eventually quieted at least to its normal level once I can get the anxiety under control. My t has been really bugging me ths week but I am pretty sure that it is because I have to go out of town on business for a few days and I am slightly stressed over it. I hope for you that it quiets down soon.

Neil, this happend to me after my first ear cleaning now years ago. I thought something had gone horribly wrong but turned out that while cleaning the nurse had actually impacted the wax more, making the ringing seem louder as I could hear less external sound. If you got all the waxed removed than it's just irritation. Give it 10 days to subside

Having seen many doctors over the years for wax removal I have come to this conclusion. Some doctors hate or won't do it. My past PCP admitted that he perforated an ear drum. Some doctors use irrigation, suction or manually pick it out under a microscope. The manual way with an experienced doctor using a microscope it the best way IMO, especially if you have tinnitus and or hyperacusis. I decided that from now on I would use hydrogen peroxide or otc stuff to keep it from building up so perhaps I will never have to have it done again.
