My tinnitus was something that happened after waking up at 3am with a loud noise in my head, vertigo, dizziness, vomiting and total deafness in left ear. Now i have tinnitus and deafness and dizziness daily, I go to vestibular therapy yet have not had any positive results.....
I was originally given the diagnosis of muenieres disease then "just" a virus that caused deafness w/tinnitus & dizziness. Question - does anyone have dizziness with their tinnitus or was I just given an extra gift of dizziness along with my tinnitus? Dizziness in a sense of feeling like I just got off a boat - cannot turn my head "too" quick, I've learned how to turn my head, lean over etc..etc.. does any of this sound familiar to anyone? My t came during my second bout of vertigo which the Dr called Benign positional vertigo. I had treatment for that twice, the second time in February, and so far no more dizziness. The t is only in my right ear, I am very thankful for that. I will say though that after the treatment for the vertigo, it took a few months before I didn't feel off balance etc. when I moved around or moved too fast. The first time I had vertigo, I was rather sick with a virus or head cold, my head was totally congested. The second time I was also very congested though I think from allergies. So for me there was some sort of a connection to the dizziness and the t but I surely don't understand the whole thing. I hope that yours improves over time.

My father-in-law suffered deafness after being a gunner in WW2. He subsequently developed Meniere's disease and tinnitus,. he is now 90 years old and has had no support at all during all that time. He is now very deaf but refuses to wear hearing aids- we think because of his tinnitus. However he has lived a full and active life despite his disability and is now widowed ,with two children, four grandchildren and one great grandchild. he is fully 'compos mentis' and living in a home, I hope you live to be 90 and have a happy life too, it can be done!

In the beginning of my tinnitus, I also experienced some dizziness and nausea. That's why they diagnosed me as having Meniere's disease, and not just plain tinnitus that came from too loud music, etc. I only have occasional bouts with dizziness and nausea now, but in the beginning the dizziness was bad - I could not even walk straight, I had to hold onto a wall to walk. But that got better. The tinnitus, unfortunately, is still with me, although it's nowhere as loud as it was in the beginning.

In reading your description of how your deafness and T started it sounded almost the same as mine. I woke up one morning and when I started to stand I just kind of fell over. Started vomiting and was so dizzy i could not raise my head. Rushed to the hospital and kept in bed with iv for a week. After further testing I had lost all hearing in my right ear. Maybe caused by menieres disease or viral infection. It has been 25 years and I still get off balance occasionally and the T is still there but I find if I am not thinking of it, I kind of forget it. Yes, it does happen. But crowds and noisy places bother me. I hope you realize you are not alone. Blessings to you........

Hi,
I'm new to this site although I have posted on the RNID forums a number of times. My tinnitus started during an illness called labyrinthitis. Labyrinthitis is basically a viral infection of the inner ear that is usually associated with a cold (after the cold seems to clear up, you come down with this infection a week or two later). When it hit me I had vertigo, nausea and muffled hearing and felt like I was going to pass out. It took a couple weeks for those symptoms to subside. I still do get some dizziness on occasion, particularly if I move my head too quickly. The infection left me with ongoing tinnitus in my left ear. It's possible that you have something like this.

I had Benign positional vertigo like 2 years ago. No T, at that time. Then constant pain in the right ear and few months later, the noise... No hearing loss... I don't know what to say but sure the vertigo and T is connected...
