feel such an emotional wreck.
Im 18, and got my T in both ears due to recurrent otitis externa, which basically causes inflamation, discharge and what not in your ear. I saw an ENT beginning of this month, who gave me a hearing test and all was fine. He blamed the T on the infections seen as it started the exact same time, and said eventually it will go and sent me on my way. Last week my T got really instrusive and my ear blocked up so I went back to the doctor who sent me to ENT casualty as my ear had a bad infection again, I went there yesterday and they suctioned out all the gunk basically. I asked him about the T and he said he didnt really no much about it, which I appreciate the honesty, but he was quite insensitive about it, gave me the it may go it may be life long he doesnt no lecture and told me to listen to music. Obviously I do no this, but ive seen about 10 doctors over the past few months and theyv all said its down to the infections, once my ears have been settled for a while it should go. So now im just so confused, I cant make myself accept it, im just wishing it would go away and crying all the time. Im back at the ENT casualty again on monday, where I'l be having another hearing test, which im presuming the audiologest will do, and for my swab results. Would the audiologest be the best person to ask about the T? I dont no where to turn. I really want some help but nobody seems willing to give me any. I just feel completely at my wits end and so scared at the thought of coping with this noise forever. I no the hospital I was at yesterday have a tinnitus clinic, yet nobody seems willing to take me seriously and refer me there. I just dont no what to do. Also, those of you having TRT, how did you manage to get a referal, how long was the wait, etc Posted on 03/31/09, 08:03 am |

Ive been living with T for so long now I sometimes forget how helpless and depressed I was at the onset of the noise. Everyones case is different. And what helps me may do nothing for you. I have learned to retrain my thinking and to do all I can to keep informed as to whats out there to help towards a cure.I also down loaded something called an Aire Freshener which I listen to all the time out home it keeps my mind off the T, again it works for me. With just starting With T all you want is it to stop, you have to tell yourself one day it will untill then try not to dwell on it easy to say but your mind will only remember it more and want to hear it. You are in the right place amoung people who know what your going through. You will find a Dr who can help it just takes time.Hang in there

Sorry for the struggles. Seriously. I think you have to be persistent and assertive for what you want. Tell the audiologist and anyone else you are in contact with that you want a referral to the T clinic. Just make it happen. Then, once you are there, if they offer no help, persist in requesting referrals to someone or some other clinic that deals with these issues, if there is something in your area.
I have tried the approach of getting on the phone and calling all the ENT;s in my area and speaking with the doc's nurse and asking them about their docs expertise in the area of T. Otherwise, it is likely a waste of time. Don' panic, it will come into focus, and, it will get better. In the short term you can try xanax 0.5 mg 1-2 times per day, use music and or white noise sound in head phones as a masker/treatment. Good luck!! Steve
