I think there's probably a lot more going on here than Synthroid, but please be aware that one of the unfortunate side effects of Synthroid is insomnia. I think that's a big part of why we're told to take it first thing in the morning on an empty stomach.
If his sleep patterns are disrupted, that will tend to make him more tempermental. If he takes his Synthroid early, it should help. If his need for Synthroid was because of cancer or a serious health issue, he could be dealing with depression. Now depression isn't always sleeping round the clock, no energy, etc. In men it often exhibits as anger. Yes, anger. So if this is a change for him as far as temperments go, enlist your doctor's help, try taking the synthroid first thing in the morning, and ask him to limit his online time so that he has a chance to get the rest he needs and to spend some time in the "real" world with you and your children. Good luck, and don't be afraid to seek counseling through your faith group, or from some of the low-cost options out there, including (but not limited to) United Way, and your local women's services.

I am concerned about damage to you and your kids. If your husband is out of town, this might be a good time for you to use resources available to you. Even with HIPAA, you are permitted to speak to your husband's doctor even if the dr. doesn't have your husband's permission to tell you about your husband's care. Is this dr. an endocrinologist? There may be some tinkering that needs to be done with his synthroid, and he may need an antidepressant too. Do you have a family dr.? You could call the primary care doc as well. In addition, I agree with Softlyspeaks that contacting your minister/priest/rabbi is important. Is your husband drinking too? That is important information. Counseling is important for the whole family. If your husband is not willing to participate, you and the children need support and coping skills. I wish you all the best. Let us know.
