hi, had TT in 2 surgeries in July. Had my RIA 8-31 (dose was 150). While they wanted my TSH level to be above 35 for the treatment, it was actually 114 (off cytomel for 2 1/2 weeks pre ria and didn't have to do the low iodine diet). no wonder I felt like crap leading up to it! 3 days later they let me start my synthroid medication. I've lately been worrying at what a high number I had and do not have a follow up until 10-9. My body scan was 9-10. Called my Endo last fri. and they still haven't returned my call. Is such a high starting number something to worry about? Anyone with a similar experience?

" My TSH was over 70 when they did my RAI -- it took too long to get in to see the endocrinologist after my surgery, and I was probably already hypo before the surgery (undiagnosed Hashimoto's). It took a long time to start feeling better after starting levothyroxine, but I don't know if it was necessarily longer than most. From what I have read on these boards, everyone's experience is really different. "

" Hello nordy, How are you feeling? Please don't worry about the high numbers. As redrita said.........everyone is different. I have had Thyroid cancer for 15 years now. It did come back after 4 years. The Doctor knew something was back because my count (Thyroglobulin) was elevated to 77 and they considered that extremely high when someone is not supposed to have any Thyroid left at all. It had grown back and spread to the lymph nodes. But still, there are so many different cases and factors. So please try not to worry. But, in saying that.........I f I were you, I'd call the Doctors office EVERY DAY until you get a response. They will get tired of you calling and get the Doctor on this. It is YOUR life and they don't have to worry about this like we do. Good Luck and keep us posted. "

" I think they believe the higher the better for rai to be effective. It never made sense to me. The low Iodine diet makes sense, but the high tsh never did. Both are considered theoretical according to most stuff I have read. "

" Hi everyone. Thanks for your responses.
I finally did get through to the Endo. My scan showed no spread. YIPPEE. They did say I had several crowded thyroid cells remaining. Does this mean I'll need more RAI?
I finally have my follow up this Fri. but I'm tired of the waiting game. Had my blood draw today. It's such a pain because my Dr is 4 hrs away! At least my blood draw can be done here locally at the hospital.
I'm having major mood swings (mainly depression) isn't this one of the side effects of the whole TSH level issues? "

" My husband is on synthroid and it change his behavior he is a very kind and loving person and after taking synthroid he become abusive and a monster, a very negative, yelling a lot, becomes very selfish, manipulative, controlling and right now he is having a vacation for himself without me and our children. This is the person that always wants to be with us.

I spoke to other doctor about this medication and he told me that sythroid make people become psychotic. "
