Thyroidectomy Surgeon

How many times did you go back to see your surgeon after your thyroidectomy?

My daughter saw him a couple of months after the surgery and he wanted to see her again 6 months later. What's the point? She is seeing a endocrinologist so why does she need to see the surgeon again? Am I missing something or should the endo appt. be enough?

" Hi. I am still seeing my surgeon after my surgery on Jan 9th. Did your daughter have cancer of the thyroid? That is why my surgeon wants to keep seeing me. That is just a thought. "

" I am also seeing my endocrine surgeon AND Endo after my total thyroidectomy in April. The surgeon is the one prescribing my synthroid and doing my blood tests. I will see both again in August. I had papillary microcarcinoma. So I agree with matthewsmomma that maybe the reason why is because of the thyroid cancer. The surgeon also wants to inspect the scar to see that it is healing properly and to make sure there haven't been any complications. "

" I had a pt and luckily no CA. Surgeon told me to go to my pcp for follow up. I feel he left me dangling, tho I like my pcp. Been researching endos, but all have come up w/ such bad patient ratings. "

" Feel lucky that a doctor actually wants a return visit. I have been having no luck with any Drs. I can't get in to see the endive cause he is "booked" until December. I found that he apparently is the only one capable in new Orleans. It's sad. A city this size and no drs that didn't get their MD in the Bahamas.
My surgeon is baffled at my results and is unsure where to go from here. My levels wont get below 35 no matter what we try. It's miserable. I am afraid that my positive attitude is officially gone. Thyroidectomy has begun my downward spiral. So I wish I had a Dr that took some interest in me. I would go to any appointment if they just asked. "

" I had papillary thyroid cancer and I see my surgeon every 6 months after the surgery for 2 years along with the Endo. The surgeon I had is versed in Cancer/Neck surgeries and she checks to ensure that incision is healing, no bulges, no pain. It is all routine, if everything is good after 2 years I don't need to see her anymore. "
