Which is better Synthroid or Levothyroxine? Is Synthroid worth the extra cost?

I'm on levothyroxine, 137mcg daily, and I haven't experienced any problems with it. Sometimes I run out of energy by the end of the day, but I don't know if that is related to the levothyroxine, stress, or just my body recovering from a very stressful year.
I've never been on Synthroid, so I can't compare the two.

I am taking levothyroxin and having no problems at all but some people swear there is a big difference and insist that synthroid is worth the extra money.

I was on Levothyroxine but the doctors made me switch to levoxyl due to the fact that it's more consistent. If you had cancer you want to stay as level as possible and Levothyroxine tends to fluctuate...according to the doctors at Johns Hopkins anyways. Synthroid works as well as levoxyl I believe.

I have had a TT due to Thyca. I am on Synthroid but am wondering if levothyroxine would work just as well as Synthroid.

I can't honestly answer for the price of these drugs. I have tricare and i only pay 3 dollars a month for it. Sorry. The generic Levothyroxine I got for free at the Military pharmacy.

I pay 19.40 a month for 30 pills of Synthroid with insurance. Generic would cost a lot less. We have lots of medical bills, with not so good insurance. We have private insurance, in which we pay 400.00 a month. It pretty much covers nothing. I would probably be better off just paying the 400.00 a month on medical bills than to even have insurance. With our current income and monthly expenses we come up short every month. It gets so depressing...

Hall,
I sympathize. We have a group plan through my wife's work but the deductible is high and the coverage is poor. So much winds up (not) being paid, it is frustrating and we are drowning in medical bills.

Synthriod is better by a long shot! I has TT 8/09, waited the 4 weeks then did the RAI. Went on levothyroxine for the first couple of week, was surprised by harshness of this drug. Called my pharmacist, asked him to give me Synthriod, what a difference! It is way more expensive that levothyroxine, but the comfort level is so much better!
I am one of the unfortunate ones who have to take 2 different levels alternate days so I have 150 synthroid one day, 137 the next. Works for me, but I can always tell the day I take the levothyroxine, cause I run out of juice about 12 hours out. Hard. Synthroid is the better drug.
