New to group..with Low White Count

I am new to the ITP Support Group. I was diagnosed with ITP in March with a platelet count of 29K. My white count has also been low, my last level was 2.9

I had a miscarriage in May, and since that my husband has insisted that I get a second opinion about my diagnosis. I am going for a consult this Monday with a new Hematologist. The doc I am going to see said she typically does a bone marrow aspiration on patients that have low counts of two cell types.

I am wondering if anyone else has had a similar experience or can offer any insight. Thanks.

" I see that you posted this on 07/03. I have not had a problem like yours but have dealt with ITP. It's not a fun disease. (Are any of them?)

I agree with your husband, with such a low platelet count you DEFINITELY need to see a doctor. I am surprised with a platelet count of 29K that you were not hospitalized. I went through a bone marrow biopsy and, while it was not pleasant, it was reassuring to rule out some of the scarier diseases such as leukemia.

I would really like to know what the new hematologist said after your visit.

Sending you huggs. "

" I sought a second opinion, and this Doc felt that the low white count as alarming. She noticed immature cells in my blood smear which increased her concerned enough that she did a bone marrow biopsy and aspiration that day. Thankfully those results came back normal!

She has referred me to a rhuematologist whom I will see on Tuesday. Thanks for your support Mimo2007. "
