i'm not sure how to get into treatment again.
i abandoned treatment because of my hemotoligist, i've been dealing with depression, PTSD, the breakup of a seriously abusive relationship. etc. etc.

needless to say i was not in the best headspace trying to deal with this too.

anyway, my very first appt. i had barely talked to the hemotoligist at all...and he just bombards me with the progress of treatments he will try.

first off, prednezone then if that doesn't work steroids, then a platlet transfusion, or replacement or something, then removing my spleen then if that doesn't work a hysterectomy.
the litany from someone i barely knew scared me pretty badly. all the other input i'd had from other doctors and stuff had made it seem like what i had was no big deal....and then him.

he's also an oncologist, and told me to get over my "pain" because the patients he sees are terminal and i have nothing to complain about.

he is the only hemotoligist in the area without driving 2 hours.

i know this needs taken care of but i'm not sure how to go about getting back into treatment.

i'm scared.

" I am new to this forum but I felt I really needed to reply to you. Please, please talk to your doctor. This is a potentially dangerous disease. I do not know where your platelet count is but it can drop quickly without you being aware of it. I am speaking from experience. Talk to your regular doctor. See if he can recommend another hematologist or another specialist that can help you. Even if you have to drive two hours to see another doctor, it will be worth it to get the treatment that you need.

You have a right to be upset about the hematologist that you saw. You DO have a right to complain. Your illness is every bit as serious as a person who has cancer and can be very dangerous. Treatments are scary when you don't understand what is going on. You have a right to courtesy and respect from your physician as well as the right to talk over your care and ask questions about things you don't understand.

Write a letter to to this doctor explaining why you are not returning. He needs to know. Doctor's are human but, oncologists especially, face patients daily that are in a life and death struggle and they can easily be overwhelmed by that fact. They have to try to distance themselves to a certain extent from their patients in order to effectively treat them. It is possible that he was having a bad day and possibly had just lost a patient or something. However, there is no excuse for him being rude to a patient, especially if it makes that patient disregard their need for medical treatment. Let him know.

Hopefully, your disease is not life threatening but don't take that chance. This is a serious disease with potentially serious consequences. Don't let one doctor's attitude keep you from getting help. "
