Thrombocytopenic Purpura Support Group

I was diagnosed with ITP almost a year ago and I have been on IV steroids off and on since then because my platelet levels keep dropping etc and IVIG transfusions a few times, and they help while im getting them but my levels drop afterwards. My hematologist wants to remove my spleen because it is so enlarged and nothing is helping it to shrink, but he wants to wait until I am 20 which isnt until September, so he said he wants to try chemotherapy that treats lymphoma until then to see if it helps. I was just curious if any of you had to get their spleen removed because of this ? & how long recovery took etc. Thanks.
