Hi everybody. I highly recommend finding a competent massage therapist, preferrably a Cranial Sacral Therapist that specializes in Mayofacial trigger point Release. I just had this done for the first time recently, and I could tell right away the facial spasms had lessened. You may get it covered under migraines at their office, especially if they are a licensed physical therapist. I know some patients who get coverage that way, or under MPD--mayofacial pain disorder.

I think every single persons TMJ is different and therefore responds to differently to treatments. My TMJ is all muscular and no joint damage and I find acupuncture and massage both work wonders for me.

it's actually "myofascial release" therapy...I've been doing for the past 3 years...have lots of other pain so not much time to focus it on the TMJ, but it does help when she does it. Painful though for TMJ therapy!

Thank you for correcting my spelling. Yes, this treatment does hurt, but it was the only thing that pulled me out of a 3 week level 10 pain with muscular spasms . I was at my wits end, ready to rip my dang head off. This was the only thing that broke up the spasms. I am not a drug taker, and I didn't want to be on muscle relaxers, especially having little kids to attend to.
