Has anyone had the Fat Graft surgery by Dr.Mark Piper in Florida. If so what were the results and how long has it been? Have been trying to get more information on it.
It actually sounds like a good idea, looking forward to hearing more about this procedure. Thanks, Kathy Posted on 10/14/09, 12:10 am |

My daughter (17 years old) is also contemplating fat graft surgery by Dr. Piper. I am new to the group and don't know what DS is. I would like to hear from anyone who has had this procedure. Thank you!

RufNeGal has had the surgery and is my mentor. She is on this site but I haven't seen her post recently. I am >6 months post op and have no pain. It took me a long time to bury the hatchett and do it. It is a HUGE physical (first three months especially) and cost commitment. I will have orthodonture afterwards. IMHO some of the forums out there have scared me with their anti-surgery slant. It is extreme but I'm proud of my choice. For me, I stand by it wholeheartedly - worth every inconvience and penny. Dr. Piper knows his stuff and his office staff is sharp. Good luck!

CanChew,
I am happy to hear about your wonderful experience with Piper. I am planning on going for my consulation with him on Nov. 16th. I hope you don't mind me asking you some questions? Was your consulation one or two days? Are you from FL? I am flying in from Chicago. I am probably going to get my disks replaced. What did you have done? I am just feeling skeptical that my TMJ dentist does not have someone in Chicago to recommend for me. ( I want to be free of this thought, maybe you can help?) I hear ya on the cost commitment! oh my!!! You will have orhodontics? You mean braces? or the brace that you have to wear? I have had pain for 17 years, I am so worried that I will still have pain in my neck and shoulder post op. Do you have any insight on this? I appreciate any feedback , and appreciate your time.

Your visit is coming up soon, Want2Bfreeofpain! Be sure to keep us posted with your experience! This consultation may be like none you've ever had before. It lasts all day. Fortunately, at the final discussion with the surgeon, a staff person is in the room taking notes for you - that alone can last a couple of hours.
I am from New Jersey and had one disc repaired, one removed and replaced with a fat graft. I have surgical brackets on my teeth for wearing my splint. They'll come off at my 9 month visit. I cannot wait to get the "after" photographs done of me to compare with my initial consult. My best outlook for orthodonture is Invisalign, but he's leaning more towards a combo of braces & then Invisalign. He is upfront at the consult, never ruling out the worst outcome for me - possible bite surgery. I'm confident that won't happen! This second phase will go on up here in NJ, but not without the Orthodontist's plan submitted to him for approval - and he'll still see me during that process. A lot of frequent flier miles. Please feel free to drop me a private message and I can elaborate further re other surgeons/specialists/2nd opinions plus the big topic of pain. Everyone else on the forum, keep poking out there - there are definately more of us that have seen him. My best to all.
