Hi all, im new to this whole TMJ thing and I must say my hats off to all of you suffering because what a pain it is.With that said I have a few questions one being ,does anyone have upper cross syndrome and if so do you believe this is the cause to your TMJ? And what info excercises can one do to help TMJ and also upper cross syndrome? My TMJ started this year but I think it stems way back like 3 years ago when I would get incredabile neck pains and upper back pains from my stressful job and my horrible labtop posture.
Then I quit that job and went elsewhere where I rarely used a CPU and frankly had no stress and tada my neck pain just up and left. Then after a year I went back to my old job because they called me and offered more money(i so regret this move). Anyways at the time I went back I was into weightlifting and then I hurt myself on March 3rd.I had to stop all weight training and I had to sleep on only one side for the longest time (I think this also may have caused the TMJ because it started around the 3rd week sleeping like this). Eentually with massotherapy and osetotherapy plus some exercises I pulled off the internet (youtube),the jaw pain went away.Lately now that my back is better and im back infront of a labtop guess what! yup its back again. Its mostly during the day that I subconsiously clench to a point where I hae white lines in my cheek flesh and even sores where my teeth meet.Im going to see an ENT in 17 days but I need to help myself now. Also my posture is so bad ,im the poster child for upper cross syndrom if you look at pictures,my neck is like a camels straight cured away from the spine.Anyone have tips for me to help myself? Also tension an stress need to go im working on this (it gets worse when I drink coffee to).In case my doctor is sending me again for the 4th blood test for Hemoglobin, thyroid, diabetes and white cell count to weed out any disease casuing this. But this is the 4th blood test so the 3 previous came out clean. Thanks for any help and again my hat is off to all reading in the tmj forum what a horrible thing to have!!!! Sorry to hear you have all this problem. My TMJ gets worse with any stress and definitely when I work, which is full time in front of a computer. When we went on holiday for 2 weeks I had no pain whatsoever. I think its a combination of posture at work and also stress. Mine also gets worse when I drink any caffeine so I stay away from caffeine. I take magnesium tablets which are supposed to be good for your nerves and help and I think they do abit. I try at work to get up regularly and luckily there is a spare room where I go and do some stretches. I get terrible headaches and if I do any weights or upper body exercise of any kind it flares it up so I'll have to live with my 'bat wing' arms haha.
I wear an orthodic plate 24/7 and have done for 3 years now and when I take it out all the pain comes back. Just thought I'd share this with you, hope it helps abit.

Thanks for the reply. I telling you this whole stressful life thing is really running it's Final days with me. Frankly although I'm 36 yrs old I'm thinking about a serious life revamp. We ( human beings) just weren't meant to life stressful lives like this.We also weren't meant to be sloched over a labtop like we both do daily and look where that's taken us. I'm going to do my best to repair the damage I've done to myself. Then I'm going to change my lifestyle starting with stress which I've already started. And I may just drop caffeine like you have done , I'll miss the coffee but not the jaw pain :(
