Help finding financial assistance

I have just recently been diagnosed with TMJ. When my Dr. did an MRI he stated that the disk in my jaw had slipped to the front of the joint. We tried physical therapy for about 5-6 sessions which only increased how much my jaw could open. The therapy didn't relieve the pain very much and I'm still unable to eat hamburgers, hot dogs, or anything else of that nature. When I went back to the dr. he stated that the next option was surgery. My insurance will only cover a $ 2000 lifetime coverage for TMJ procedures. The surgery will be about $ 8000 to $10,000. Does anyone have any advice on any financial assistance? My husband is thinking about borrowing against his 401K plan at work but I really don't want him to do that because that'll wipe out his 401K plan. I've been looking on line for financial assistance but with no luck. I could really use some advice and encourgement about right now. Can anyone help us out.

HI Dawn..I read your post, and I have a few suggestions for you. First off, please try to get a second and third opinion, NOT from an oral surgeon. I can't stress this enough, only 3-4% of tmjd cases are surgicals, you need to run, not walk from this doctor telling you need surgery after 5 PT sessions.
I live pretty close by you, so I do have some referrals to tmd specialists if you are up for a drive. I know good ones in Wi., and IL., Did you also have tomograms taken of your joints? I'm in treatment right now with a tmd specialist if you want to talk to me about the treatment, and what is involved. You may be able to recapture your discs by splint therapy. Many people have success with this, and do not need surgical procedures. That is only used as a very last resort with tmjd. Contact me if you have any questions----take care.
