I think this article is reporting on the same study that the Today Show reported on a little while back. I know there was a thread on Daily Strength about the Today Show story and it sounds like the same study.
Makes us all looking like drunken druggies, doesn't it? 'What terrible parents these SIDS parents must have been?' I can almost read people's minds... ges. I hate this crap!

Whoever wrote that article is a complete idiot! 1) they are totally misinterpreting the findings of the study and 2) the study was done on 80 SIDS cases over 4 years in southwest England.
Researching a whopping 80 cases over a 4 year period hardly gives legitimacy especially when you are taking a sampling from a relatively un- diverse area. I hate studies like this crap that are released to media and then people just believe whatever they hear without ever bothering to look into the facts.. Oh and then they go and post crap on a parenting board! just lovely!

Shit like this has really lite a fire under my ass...sorry for the language but I am so pissed right now. Lately I have been surrounded by all of these crazy articles and I am so sick of it. This is the same type of thing that was said ont he Today Show.
We are good parents, why does the media try to portray SIDS parents as people who neglected to take care of their children in some way...I wish I could hae saved my Ari from SIDS, but sadly there was nothign more I could have done, we did everything they told us to do!!!! I am so tired of this crap....grrrrr I have been looking into ways that we can get the real truth about SIDS parents out there, we are good parents who love our babies unconditionally...*tears* it's so frustrating!!!

I found an article about co-sleeping in China. I co-sleep with my children. It's wonderful to have snuggly babies cuddle with me every night.

Thats not what I was worried about shultzc. I just hate that it makes us sound like bad mommies. Like our babies suffocated cause we were to drunk or high to notice that they were in bed with us. Most of our babies died from Sids sleeping alone in a crib. Just makes me angry that people are so uneducated on the topic in the first place, but then people publicize stories like this which make it even worse.

I have not read the article. I am going by all of your comments. I had the same debate going on another thread on a different board a few weeks ago more or less having to educate common people about the same type of stuff. I truly RESENT THE HELL out of any implication that we deserved this crap we were dealt because we were bad parents/people.
We all love our babies...it fires me up when it is implied that we f*cked up!!!!!

This is my first post, my son died in 1979 at 8 months old of SIDS, I remember in the first couple years reading articles or seeing news bits about SIDS, most of it turned out to be ideas or theories, it is now 31 years later since he died, and none of those TV insights have panned out over 31 years. After awhile when I would hear something about SIDS on the news I didn't put any faith in it and tried to just ignore because it would just annoy me. The only thing that has changed is the sleep position of the babies, the only real statistical difference in the death rate from SIDS, that was not known in 1979, but in our case it wouldn't of mattered because an 8 month old can turnover and move too much to keep on their backs. Even with the position change some babies still do pass away of SIDS. For those who loss is fresh and knew I have survived, had two children after my son passed but have never forgotten holding him and loving him. Time helps heal also my faith has helped me.
