" My therapist has been trying to get me to do EMDR for the past year and a half (I was attacked shortly before I got pregnant...that's a whole other board though). I hear it eventually works, but during the treatment it's like reliving the whole event on every level. The way my therapist described it is that when something traumatic happens...our minds can sort of "freeze" during that time. So, when we have flashbacks, etc, it's replaying the same thing that was happening when it "froze". The EMDR helps to relive it, but in a safe, calm and controlled environment, and therefore gets the mind "unstuck". If you're willing to go through the pain right now, I think it's a good option...but YOU have to be ready! Good luck.

" Basically, it's almost like being hypnotised, and you talk about what you experienced. While you're doing that, the therapist will have you either follow her fingers in a pattern, or some will tap your knee and have you pay attention to it while your talking. There are different ways of doing it, with the same final focus. "
