Hey guys,
I'm an 18 year old guy who has a moderate to severe stutter. I've been having real trouble finding anyone around my age who is also has a stutter and can understand what I'm going through. I've stuttered midly all my life, but around the time I turned 14 it got really bad and hasn't stopped since. I find it hard to meet new people and shake every time I have to use the phone or talk to someone new. If there's anyone around there vaguely near my age who is going through the same stuttering problems, I'd really appreciate someone to talk to. Thanks. Posted on 04/15/09, 10:04 am |

Hey
I am 19 years old and I have a moderate problem. I have had it a good majority of my self. It started off pretty severe. But, as I grew older, I learned that if I slowed down and took my time, things turned out pretty well most of the time. Trust me, 9 out of 10 people will wait to hear what you have to say.

hey.. im not a teen anymore, but im 27.. and i went thru and still am going thru the exact same thing u r!! so ur definetly not alone with that one. i shake when meeting someone knew, i even almost become almost inverted so i dont have to talk much.. or im just the opposite when i feel im "doing good" i overly talk.. and i start to get excited and start stuttering.. ive even gotten to the point of talking on the phone with ppl and having to hang up and call right back and say ive lost connection or something.. its really sad.. or even having the other person on the phone tell me to call back becuase they think their phone is going in and out when they hear me stutter, and they are trying to be nice or something, and that just causes extra attention towards it. so do u find urself saying sorry a lot or anything? like what are some of ur things u do in the situations uve mentioned.. about skaing.. and ur responses u get when ur on the phone.. im here if u ever want to chat!

Hi PauliG,
My name is Kayla. I am also 18 and have been stuttering for four years. Just like you, I get nervous when meeting new people or talking on the phone. I actually have avoided talking to people on the phone because it is so scary. Now that I am in college, I am having to speak to more people and it gets scary-so scary that I became depressed. :( Stuttering is a scary thing and it is something you have to work at to improve and everyday I wake up and wish I could be "normal" agian. I can't even remember what it feels like to talk without stuttering. :( Anyway, enough of my babling...if you would like to talk, feel free to respond to me on here. :)
