Yes, I've been called "retarded", "stupid", "special", gotten weird looks, and even had someone ask if I was having a "spaz-attack" (because I sometimes shake while I'm stuttering. Your not alone, there are some really mean people out there, but you've just got to ignore them.

i too get "annoyed" looks. Mainly my mother-in-law. She bats her eyelashes and squints like it's painful to have to listen to me. I'm like, sorry I don't talke 90 miles an hour like you!

Oddly enough I stutter more in my home than I do in school. Another thing is that I do not stutter when I'm mad or arguing.

My sister called me her spastic brother most of life. One of the great orators in Ancient Greece literally spoke with marbles in mouth to help speech.

Yes I get weird looks all the time but I really hate it when the person your talking to knows that you stutter and they still look at you like its the first time theyve heard you stutter. This lady at my job does that to me all the time.

Yes and I agree with you. When peoplee first met me , they thing I am deff but I am not DEf and the people would be doing sign langauge to me and they expect me to do back to them. I said Look I am not deff and I just a talking problem. they said ok and never did it agsin. the couple who did the sign language felt like a dumm ass becuase they did not know I was able to speek and use my two ears at the same time.
to Anser your question yes i have 3 time when poeple thought i was challenge but I was not bcyase they just assumed that I was ans did not ask if i had some disabily. Now I am very open to it. If I meet some new, I tell them before they get any ideas if i was challenged or not

Like you Laera, sometimes when I stutter I cannot control the muscles in my face and my eyes twitch and I know I look stupid...lol...my sister thinks it's cute though. And yes, like each one of you has said, people are cruel and they don't understand that if we could help ourselves...we wouldn't stutter...and I hate it when I am trying to speak and someone is looking at you like "come on, spit it out" or when they are trying to finish your sentences for you. It urks me!
