" Well, I do stutter somewhat when I talk, and I've been introduced as a talented soprano since my late childhood. As of now I'm an opera singer. I don't know if there's any connection between stuttering and singing, but I don't personally think so. I did not stutter as a child, and people still loved to hear me sing. But what I have noticed is that no singer I know who stutters when talking actually does so while singing. "

" Yeah it seems that a lot of people who stutter can sing well. I stutter a lot and I am OK at singing.
I know this is off the topic a bit but do you think singing can help stuttering? I have noticed that people who stutter usually never stutter when they sing. "

" to annie101:
yes singing does help stuttering, but wouldnt it be odd if you were talking to someone and had to sing while you were speaking to them? i wish we could do that. anyone who stutters does NOT stutter when they sing. i think its because your singing in a tune or something like that "

" I've stuttered since I can remeber, and I think I'm a fairly good singer. Although, I have stuttered while singing before, which horrified me. But when I learned I wasn't the first to stutter while singing, it made me feel a little better.

There's a song by Scatman John called 'I'm a scatman'. One of my favorite verses is, "Everyone's sayin' that the Scatman stutters, but doesn't ever stutter when he sings. But what you don't know, I'm gonna tell you right now, is that a stutter and a scat are the same thing."
It made me feel better. "

" Did not read all the comments but I did a study on stuttering in H.S. and the reason people don't stutter when they sing is because speaking is stacatto which means choppy or broken and singing everything is connected so if we when we speak could learn to connect those words or sounds we have troubles with we would be all good! "

" I don't stutter, but I always thought that people who do stutter would stutter when they sing just like they do when they talk?

Interesting! "
