" Hi,Hashee; i agree with some of what you said, but, it is really difficult not to compare - Lord knows I've done it, but you just got to know the difference. . . I still rely on my wheelchair a lot but, mostly for support and sitting comfortably. I had my stroke in Oct 2004 and it's been a long hard road since then! I'm proud to say that I'm now quite mobile, with the aid of a single-point cane and at other times, as necessary, without the cane (when I'm brave enough. I'd like to add one important point though, to your discussion post - never give up and strive for more!!! It's not easy, but try very hard to do it; it is possible, trust me! I do try to remember everybody- sometimes, it can be very frustrating, but it is doable! "

" Two things I found about a stroke (9/1/04) is that your mind is trapped in your body. I couldn't express my thoughts for a long time and if I didn't agree then I was told I wasn't thinking right. The other thing is that you no longer own the physical 'you.' Forget any pride or privacy. For awhile your mind and body no longer belong to you! "

" Hiya. Had my stroke 3/10/05. I only walk minimally, but haven't given up even though my legs swelled even AFTER being drained of 45 lb. of crappy fluid. I wonder why I am eating sodium-free food if I still get edema probably leading AGAIN to congestive heart failure. Hospitals totally piss me off; I don't want more of them. I keep thinking I'm frigging gonna die. Nurses are wiotches; doctors their captain... I know I'm making no sense. I hate the compromises; wheelchairs that do not fit through doorways cuz some idjit VNA nurse has no measuring tape. Thanks for being a good sport/listening. Gene "
