Strokes don't care about a persons age, and yes 14 is a very young age to suffer and survive a stroke. But remember in order to help your recovery you need to keep a posative mental attitude. I was 35 when I had my first stroke and my doctors all thought thato I was too young to suffer a stroke but I did and I survived and yes I lost alot but I thank my blessings every day that I survived and that I am able to encourage others to move on and live their lives as best they can. Are you seeing a counselor for depression? I have a great one that helped me through all of the "Why Me " Depression is very common after a stroke. Seek help.

" Stroke has no age limit, it can happen at any age. casey 1961 is right. Do you like to read??? there is a book by Dr Jill Nolte Taylor who was a brain scientist who suffered a stroke, she was on Oprah a couple of weeks ago explaining her journey through this very unwanted illness. You may loose some things, but I guarantee you will find other things to interest you, Please keep talking, your friend Joanne, p.s. there are a lot of people on DS that are quite young, most are not as young as you. I know that it is not fair, I felt the same way. Our lives have changed for the better for the most part. Do you have help???Joanne "

" You ask the classic question that every stroke victim has when they join that very special group called stroke survivors. The only answer that made sense to me was: Because it was, deal with it.

I was at the ripe old age of 51 when mine happened. I came home from three months in the hospital an infant. I couldn't walk, talk, feed myself, or think very clearly. Heck, I wasn't even potty trained.

Nine years on, you should see how much has changed. I can even tie my own shoes. I am all growed up.

" I'm sorry about your situation, but, like what the others said - stroke doesn't pick and choose whom it's going to attack; I once met this very young girl who was only 10 and her dad, who was with her, told me she had a stroke at age 6. My first reaction was, "what"? How can that be? hers plagued her right side but she was walking and seemed to be okay with her condition. I felt like crying coz I have a 10-yr old son and this girl could have been him.So, please hang in there, and always pray to the Lord and thank Him for the fact that you survived, even after your stroke. If you need to talk more about this, just let me know - I'm here to help and share experiences with veryone. We are all like family here, you know. . . Please take care, and God bless you! Love always,
Annie:) "
