In June 2005 (in my mid 30's at the time) I suffered a stroke in the right pons region of my brain. My left hand, ankle and foot are still very spastic, my equilibrium is still off and I suffer from tremors occassionally.

I did 1 yr of PT and I've been doing at-home PT excercises for the past two years. I have an Aunt that was in her 50's when she suffered a stroke and she's walking around in 1 1/2" - 2" heels and looks like nothing ever happened.

My Dr. says, "you have come a long way. you are very lucky. it sometimes takes a while..." blah blah blah. I know three other people that have suffered from stokes 2 older and 1 around my age. She's had two strokes. Nobody is limping around! A couple of them are moving a little slower, but they're NOT LIMPING AROUND.

Can any offer me some insight. What has been your experience w/recovery (physically).

" I just passed the three year mark and thought I was as good as it was going to get 1 - 2 years ago... I see improvements when I look back to months or a year ago. How much more I can do now by comparison to last year. I think it is and will always be ongoing. As it will never be the same as it was... and have realized that friends will never understand... no matter how much you explain to them. "

" Black Cat In March 2005 had stroke, paralysis left arm, hand and leg with foot drop. I'm improved and am improving. I wish I had an answer to the how long question...I met an older lady stroke vic who still limps after 7 years but uses no brace, I asked her how long, she said a long time. "
