Has anyone ever experienced severe pain on the affected side after an Ishmetic? stroke. I do and i'm on Lortab 10mg and have been on it for over a year and the doctors keep wondering why I run out so often. This medicine doesn;t seem to be effective for me any more. Any thoughts or comments appreciated. GOD BlESS YOU ALL!

" yes yes and yes... It sometimes takes time for them to get the right med for you... ask them to change you to something different. they had to change mine around about 5 times... you may also have nerve damage going on. There is now a neuropathy group, you'll also find other helpful resources for pain management.

" I have heard that botox helps with rigidity and also pain. My grandmother was prescribed Baclofen which help relax her muscles and ease her pain, but unfortunately it made her very drowsy and a bit loopy at times. Therefore, we had to take her off of it. I have spoken to many people that have benefited from it. "

" Ferrell,
Yes - I have severe pain in different locations of my head and neck. My strokes were in the occipital lobe. I have several sensations that I experience. It starts as burning then the pain moves from the top right side and extends to the back. The headache can become extreme and I want to go to the ER but I suffer instead.

Another area is my carotid artery where I have a dissection. The pain starts as the artery opens and bleeds.

The third area is dep in my face. Another area is on the left side at my jaw.

All these area of pain are caused by changes in blood flow, aneurysms, and dissections.

I refuse to take pain medicine. I work through the pain - regardless of how extreme. I do repetative stretching of of my neck or head for hours.

When all else fails - I drink a glass of wine. It works immediately to dull the pain. THe problem is the wine wears off before the pain does. My stomach can only handle so much wine.

Many stroke patients never experience pain. This is usually a sign that something else is going wrong, as in my case.

I hope this helps.
