Has anyone ever tried to get stem cell treatment? how did you do it? have you ever gotten onto a trial/study to help you during your stroke recovery? what did you do?

Dashia, I think this is more hype than reality. If you think about it, you have a dead spot in your brain, whatever it used to control needs to be transferred to a new spot, either existing brain cells or if you get stem cells, to those cells. Regardless you would need to use neuroplasticity to start controlling the lost functions. I think the new cells would be more likely to be taken over by some functions you are already good at. There is no conversion program to transfer information from the dead cells to the new stem cells. This is the computer programmer in me looking at the logical possibilities.

My View is that SC may help repair lost functions in the brain due to the fact that we still do not know how bad a certian area of a brain has been dead or if surronding cells are not functioning at 100%. I think that stem cells have the potential to either build up the areas that are damaged or boost the process of your own body to heal it's on it's own. These cells are highly active and can do alot of things. Some people who had SC for bone marrow had reported better they had cognition after. This is do to maybe unseen trauma to the brain and the migration of cells to it by the communcation from a cellular level between brain cells and SC. I would research this though because pending on what cell is being used and how they are refined is going to play a role in how effective the cells are. Actaully Britian is starting a trail for stroke victims. I wish the US would get on board because this country has the highest potential for the ground breaking research. If I had the money I personally would go and do it. even if i noticed only slight improvments. For me any is better than none at all.
