What do you do to de-stress?

Had to spend 2 days reformatting and reinstalling everything on my computer. Hormones from my monthly fluctuations are kicking in. Only slept 5 hours. Kids have been particularly wild. Have a bunch of projects that I'm working on. House is a mess. Blah blah blah, yadda yadda yadda, and eventually I ended up feeling like I was on the verge of screaming.

I decided to stop myself from my usual stress routines and try something new.

I stopped working on everything and got out of the house. I went to a kids' soccer game and cheered. I had some nice conversations with some nice people at the game, focusing only on positive topics. And then I went home, caught up on some cleaning (just to be able to check something off my to-do list), and then spent the next 40 minutes on a 3.25 mile run/walk. When that was done, I ate a delicious dinner (really it wasn't all that special as far as dinners go, but after a workout, everything tastes delicious because your body is craving food). And suddenly, those feelings of stress just melted away. This is something I've been studying about myself -- what makes my stress go away. For me, socializing, exercise, cleaning something, and just getting a change of scenery seems to do the trick. (Funny how over the years, I've spent so much money on bath products, aromatherapy oils, supplements, relaxation tapes, and and such when all the stress-busters I needed were free.)

But I'm still on the hunt for more ideas to try. What helps you to de-stress?

" Hi this was really intersting... Your solutions sound really effective. Getting a positive frame of mind by talking to the right people at the game, having a good yell at the game to let out some frustrations, cleaning is said to be a good stress reliever and exercise as they say is the best over all. Yeah I agree with you about buying products when its all for free right in front of us. I think taking the time to actually step back and look at your self and see what words and what does not is stress relief in itself then going for the things that work. Good on ya, cant say I have too many more - reading a book in the sun, getting out and doing something different instead of being stuck in the house and all of the above. "

" As a dedicated gym rat, lifting is my best stress reliever ;) When i step into my house of pain, nothing else matters and i'm focused on nothing except my training ; especially since i'm training for some powerlifting competitions this summer. A great pump will clear your mind every time lol

Also, having PTSD and problems sleeping, i have to have white noise in the bedroom. We have a Homedics radio that plays nature sounds and we're also going to be getting a Celtic sleep music cd. "

" I do physical activity to destress, take a hot bath, eat some dark chocolate or have a hot cup of tea, listen to music, write and do artwork, call a friend and talk, shoot some pool, read a good book. "

" I always go outside and start to walk or run but alone. That's helps me a lot to free my mind from everything and relax for a little time. Also try meditation music or other techniques like sex, playing games to defocus or standard meditation. "

" I get out my meditation tapes and just relax or at least try to....It's very hard to de-stress when you are stressed...training your brain to stop thinking about stress is a daily disipline for sure! "

I am not out of the ordinary I have multiple kids, finance troubles, health issues and some (non diagnosed yet...:( yet) and more... But I do try to close my eyes and focus on the good and what I do have that makes me happy :) I hope we can all help each other "
