i have tendinitis and osh-good schlatter disease. i play a lot of sports, and im young so this sucks. i got it about two years ago, my knees hurt while in winter indoor soccer my coach held before we go back to our next season. anyways i kept quiet about my knee pain for a while, worried i was just out of shape. but then it because awful and i told my mom my knees hurt so bad. she made me keep going to practices though, and my coach noticed me limping. i didnt realize i was limping and assumed it was being of my new cleats, and my blister. finally i sat out of practice because of my knees. my parents took me to see a docter, then a specialist. then i had to go to physical therapy for a while. i had to skip a whole season and a 1/2 because of my knees. its sucks. nothing has made my struggles better. ive tried absolutely everything except surgery. now, im struggling with my weight and SI, and when i would try and go out to run to relax, my knees make me even more pissed and frustrated because i cant! ew did i mention its in both knees, and i had to go around wearing a HUMONGOUS brace for about a month at school that didnt let my knees move at all? i looked like one of those fucking soldiers way back when they walked straight legged (i cant remember the term used for it). anyways that was just an introduction to moi! adios

I think your priority should be the health of your knees.Trust me I see a lot of patients whos knees are very involved from sports they used to play when they were younger. If you are under 21 your body is still growing. The growth plates at the end of your bones have not closed yet.Because of this your bones and cartilage have a disposition to assume a structure according to the stress lines you are exposing your joints to.You do not want your knees developing a knock-knee posture or a bow legged posture.Osh-good schlatter is nothing more than the combination of a growth spurt and unusally high stress through the tibial tubercle.I know it is hard not to play.If you stop placing high stress through the joint and allow your growth to proceed without abnormal stress your condition will improve. In the mean time only perform low impact exercises.Experiment with different forms of low impact exercises.Follow the rule of no pain when exercising.

Hi im amy, and i also have osgood shlatters disease. I play soccer, and ive had to sit out alot during games because my knees were in indescribable pain. then they started swelling. And the brace? Oh yeah. embarrassing. i had to wear one too. When i first told my doctor about it he said if i played on it when it hurt really bad, there could be possible paralysis. so i know you hate to hear this, i did, but whatever you do, dont play on it if it hurts too the point that you are almost crying, because you dont want to have to quit the sport. Dont get me wrong, its ok to play on a little pain, its just that your the judge of how far you can go. IM young too, so i know how you feel.

Do whatever you can to fix this now. I'm 37, with double-knee Osgood Schlatters that has left me with joint pain (likely arthritis) and a bowed right leg for the rest of my life.

I would do something about it soon, as I was diagnosed at 12 and I haven't been able to do sports properly since I was 16... I'm now 18 and my knees are constantly giving way and I can barely play any of the sports I want to as I can't get through the pain... I have resulted to coaching, but that still agravates them.

am 20 i still have osgood schlatters diease, when i was 11 and 5 weeks into school the back of my knee started to get tight so i had to kick my leg out fast and it made a cracking sound, the pain was so bad my mum took me to the doctors to get it checked out, the doctor sent me for an x-ray and the doctor told me i had osgood schlatters diease, the doctor sent me to another hospital to see a specialist, the put me on tablets and and he told me i could not play sports anymore which was hard as i am always running around playing football and basketball. the pain in my knee was really bad the doctor put me in a full length cast to see if it helped nearly a year after i was told i had it he wanted to try one more cast and he said if it did not work or help this time it would have to be an op, when i was 15 he discharged me as my knee was getting alot better, i still kept up with not playing any sports, i only now take tablets when the pain is really really bad, the front and back of my knee still swells up, i have found the cold weather makes my knee pain worse, when the pain is bad i find i can't walk or do anything as it hurts so much.

well i got got diagnosis of osgood at 9 or 10 yrs old went to doc an they told my mom it will go away as i grew up well i just turned 40 and its still there. i played alot of sports growing up but did have to stop alot because my knees would not cooperate. in my 20 i worked alot of strenous jobs and im a cosmetologist so standing doing hair was really hard but i came on going ignoring the pain until i reached my 30s and it was so bad that my knees were starting to give way and any given time. had split tendons fragments etc. so basically try and do what you can while your young and savor your knees when there is alot of pain stop its the body's way of warning you. as a youngster i was very head strong and thought it would go away and it will be ok but now im barley walking and stairs are out of the questions. i also have other issues with my knees so that plays alot on it to. technology has come along way since i was diagnosis so there is hope but in the mean time do whatever possible to savor those knees.
