transportation and getting around?

I am a student nurse researching SB for a project. I have read that many with SB use crutches, braces, and wheelchairs. I was wondering if anyone with SB has had issues with getting around, for example schools, stadiums, campuses, store, buses, or certain cities in general? I have heard that now places are more accessible but are they really?

And also somewhat unrelated to this topic what are common misconceptions about SB that you would like to set straight?

" the biggest misconceptions i deal with are
Everyone assumes i cannot walk or i have braces or crutches
the truth is i have none of the above
i walk without any aids and i have never required any type of aid
some people assume that i have a shunt
again i do not nor have i ever required one
hydrocephalus never occured with me
People think SB is a disease and that is contagious
People think that my mother did something wrong and thats why i have SB
They also have said things like
"If she had taken more folic acid during the pregnancy..."
HERES THE TRUTH
My mother was on FOLIC ACID and all kinds of vitamins
she ate healthy and took care of herself since well before she got pregnant with me
AND IT DIDNT HELP
i was still born with SB "

" I think the biggest misconception is that disabled ppl in general and especially those who use wheelchairs for mobility are not sexual beings. When ppl discover that I am a lesbian they often start to say something about not knowing that ppl who r paralyzed II'm an incomplete paraplegic) can have sexual feelings. "
