My son wears KAFO's. We are on vacation and I noticed a red mark on the back of one of his heels. it hasn't gone away in over a week. we had his braces worked on while here and it still hasnt helped. im afraid to put his braces back on without it being back to normal color.
do you still wear the braces when you get a spot like that or do you leave them off until its completely gone.
im worried about him not being used to them if we keep them off too long.
the mark is about the size of a quarter. is there a way to help it heal?

" I am no Doctor. but when ever I get a sore from my AFO's, I never wear them again till it is healed good. Or If I have to wear them I fold a handkercheif up to add padding to the sore spot. I was burnt once so I have some left over Silvadeen(sp) salve, which is presciption, but it really heals well for open sores. "

" could be an ulcer that starts from the inside out, I used to get those. My advice would be to pad the area, see if you can get a gel like pad, keep the spot dry, put an extra thin stocking on before you put the brace back on. Is it bothering him, does he say it is sore? Keep an eye on it, keep the area well padded and hope it doesn't become an ulcer. All the best. "
