I just wanted to say hello to everyone, I just joined a bit ago and wanted to introduce myself. I made the choice last week to take the first step in beating my nicotine addiction. I started my smoking cessation class this past Wednesday and have a quit date of 21 November.

I started taking Zyban this morning and will start using the patch on the 21st, my doctor told me that the two combined have worked well for a lot of people. I have been a smoker for 18 years and have been concerned about my health, I have been told that it's not too late for me so I am taking advantage of this opportunity.

" Welcome to the group. You have just made one of the best decisions of your life and your approach to your quit seems spot on. Zyban will reduce the cravings and the patch will give you time to deal with the psychological addiction to cigarettes.
If you have time do some reading on whyquit.com it has heaps of info about our addiction and the process of quitting.
When you do crave a ciggie remember the 5 D,s distract, delay, drink water, deep breathe and DS (this site) By the time you have done all that the craving will have passed. I look forward to seeing you at rollcal
hugs Deb "

Start some serious walking before your quit date and it will help make the big day a bit easier.....hugs ozzie "

" Welcome to DS, good decision you made. This is the greatest bunch of quitters I know on this board, inspiration and support is here 24/7 just for the asking. Even though your quit day is Nov 21, do join in the Daily Pledge and the Roll call, that way you will get use to posting and we can follow your progress. "

" its never too late! youve got a plan in place and that is good. remember your 5D's..drink water, deep breathe, distract, delay, and discuss. also educate yourself here and at : http://www.dailystrength.org/group... there is a link to allen carrs book on that site that is very helpful in educating you on your addiction and recovery. the psychological recovery is challenging and can take a while, but if you are prepared for it, it can be much easier!! " Hi Joseph (and everyone else) - I joined this group about one minute ago because I was inspired by what you said about combined Zyban and patch. I didn't know you could do both. My husband and I started on Zyban 18 days ago, but we're both still smoking - although we have cut down a lot.

Tomorrow I will try a patch too - plus I have lozenges. For me the hardest thing is trying for both husband and me to quit together - I was going pretty well, then he had a cigarette so I did too :-(

I've quit many times before - once for 5 years. How stupid I was to start again. Hopefully belonging to this group will help this time! "
