As some one who is on her third attempt at quitting, i just felt the need to share something with you.
weekends were always hardest for me. There was a lot of down time and lack of structure compared to the week days. As I approach the 1 month mark, i have had some revelations for myself. they may or may not apply to you but hopefully it will help. stress.......... have always said with each attempted quit that my failure was due to stress. well, i am here to tell you that the cigarette did not make the stress go away or help. if anything, it made it worse. now on top of the stress, i had guilt. i had picked up a cigarette and i lost all the groundwork i had put into quitting with one puff. I felt worse than i would have had i stuck to using NOPE. I now realize that the stress will always be there. The hardest part of the quit for me is retraining the brain to learn how to deal with things before i started smoking and that includes dealing with stress. physically, i actually felt worse when i started smoking again.. the fatigue was back with a vengence. Sinus and allergies came back along with problems with hoarseness. my self esteem when i had quit was getting better..... it got worse after i started smoking again. So to the newbies who have just started and even ones who have been quit for awhile but are struggling, my advice to you is to stick with it. write down your reasons for quitting or why you have quit, make copies and keep several copies in strategic locations..... i use the refrigerator, taped one on my bathroom mirror and have one in my car. remember that while good reasons for quitting can be for your family, the number one reason should always be for yourself. i would give anything if i had stuck with it the first time. stay close to ds. i've learned there is always someone on here to help and if there aren't, there will be someone on soon. Journal alot. it helps. i can say that this group is such a big help and inspiration to me. You guys have made it possible for me to stick with it and i thank and love each of you. Sambod,
Thanks for sharing, this is quit #3 for me too! I agree whole heartedly with what you said. I remember the guilt. Another tip is tell everyone you know that you have quit. It is harder to start knowing you have to face everyone and admit that you are smoking again. Plus, it is amazing how everyone congratulates you when you tell them you have quit, it is a nice boost for suppport.
