Well... After smoking since the age of 13 (I am 49 now), I have decided to quit smoking. My quit day was yesterday, Independence Day!!
So far so good... I was wearing a Step 1 patch that my Mom gave since she quit 3 weeks ago after 50 years of smoking (yeay) and I have to say that I did not notice the difference when I was wearing the patch yesterday, to today with no patch.

Since I am on SSD due to 4 spinal surgeries and the cigarettes in the State of Florida has just gone up again another $1.00, that is $2.00 in less than 6 months, I keep telling myself, I can't afford this anymore! I can't buy them, is either food, gas or cigarettes.... I am chosing the first 2.

I know that I am going to need a support group for those moments were I will go stir crazy, right? It hasn't happened yet, but I know it will, LOL!
My Doc also put me on Wellbutrin and also a medication for anxiety since he says that anxiety is what makes us want to smoke...

OK, I just wanted to say hi and to join this group. I am sure that I am going to need all the help that I can get when I have "those moments". I will see y'all around!

Tipper

" WOW! What a great welcome!!! I belong to the chronic pain and back pain groups also and I don't remember receiving such a warm welcome over there.....

Yes, I am very, very happy to have made the decision. The 4th of July is the day of independence and the day that we celebrate freedom in this wonderful Country of ours and now is going to be my independence day from Phillip Morris too!! LOL No more Marlboro's!!

Thanks again for the lovely and heartfelt welcome, I promise to come here everyday and if I ever feel the temptation to go get some cigarettes, I will come here firs. I need the support... as y'all know is not easy quitting, so I thank you in advance for any help that you will provide to me. Lots of hugs!
Tipper :-) "

" Lots of good advice so far tipper so all I will add is a big welcome and a hearty congratulations!

I can't recommend Alan Carr's book more and would encourage ALL newbies to go to the daily roll call and daily pledge. It seems very clear to me that those who daily pledge and roll call stay quit more often than those who don't.

Independence day, great choice! "

" Hi Tipper, I too quit on the 4th. Freedom for both of us. I'd like to be your quit buddy. I first joind this awesome group in Feb '08 ,didn't smoke for 8 months and was stupid enough to become complacement about my quit. It has taken me a long time to get back here but together we can do it for good this time.
Some advise for the 1st month....drink tons of water to help flush out the nasty chemicals ..keep busy...nap when you can..and STICK CLOSE TO DS. Pledge everyday and sign in to roll call. I know I will.
Love ya,Deb "
