I am so embarassed to tell the group that I smoked today. All the hugs you've been giving me got me though 4 days of hell but I did it, and now I have to tell you all that I work in a very stressful job and today on my lunch break which is only 1/2 hour I went outside and bummed a smoke (something I haven't done in about 30 years). I couldn't wait until after work to try and get another one. I am not handling stress very well these days and feel like I am losing it. GRRRRR!!!!! I am allergic to the patch, cannot tolerate Wellbutrin,Zyban or Chantix,I have tried all of them and the gum and lozenges (called Thrive) do nothing for me. My only option is cold turkey, this is very hard but I vow to try again and continue and want to thank you all for being so very supportive with all your encouragement so far. Please do not feel this was in vain, I appreciate it all and will make you proud when I do finally quit for good. Terry

Jazz, Do not be ashamed. Sometimes failure proludes success. You only fail when you stop trying. Quitting is not easy and many people have several attempts before they succeed. Pick yourself up and brush yourself off, regain your focus and try again.
As I have said many times and learnt from my own experience.....Control your emotions or they will control you and your actions. We all encounter stress everyday but we must remind ourselves that smoking is not an option. I believe in you and I know you will do it. I support you 100% and you have not disappointed me or anyone else here. HUGS

Don't be to hard on yourself. It took me 10 tries. If I fail this time I will keep trying. You can do cold turkey. It will be hard but you are strong and worth it. Each time we fail a quit we learn something to take with on the next one so your quit was still successful. I'm sorry to hear those methods don't work for you but cold turkey was the one I dreaded trying and the one that has worked best for me and oddly enough was easier once I did it than the other methods. Take care and again try not to be to hard on yourself. I think everyone here has failed at least once and no one is going to judge you for it.

jazz, speaking as one who has just started her quit, i can tell you that this is my third attempt. stress for me has always been my downfall but the thing that i had to realize is that stress is always going to be there. Part of the quit, i think, is retraining the brain on how to handle stress. It takes time and most likely, it takes many attempts so don't feel bad.
just think of your reasons of why you want to quit, and try again. you can do this........

Slipping isn't failing, you only fail if you don't put them back down. The one thing you really need to remember when you are in the thick of it is, it gets easier. Not overnight, not in leaps, but in steady steps.
Before you quit again, do yourself a favor and watch these videos and/or read this book. It really will help. Terry, you will make it because you want to. Start as many times as you need to, we will be here to help and support. Stress at work is a very strong reason for many to smoke, but did the smoke really make you feel better, did it remove the stress or was the stress still there after the break or lunch.
Don't be so hard on yourself. Failure leads to success. Think positive and remember that you are never alone, we are always with you.
