Hi,
This is my first post here. I just want a bit of information really please.
I have thought for a while that I might have sleep aponea but not really followed it up. I went to see my GP last night and he gave me a sleepiness study to fill in.
Someone (who shall remain nameless) has said i can loose my driving licence if i get diagnosed with it (here in the UK).
So I really would like to know - how people found out and what the possible outcomes are?

Thanks

" Do you snore? Some people stop breathing for a time when they snore and the brain is deprived of O2. Your Dr will have to schedule a "sleep study" at the hospital, that's how they diagnose it. "

" i must say this website could really be designed better. aaanyway, sleep apnea is actually very dangerous. i was shocked to find out that from "simple" not snoring people can actually suffer the gravest of consequences. So, i urge you to take this seriously. You can be sure you have sleep apnea if you snore AND fall asleep involuntarily.
For example, in the office, or, really bad, at a traffic light. If that happens, you need to see a doctor right away. Sleeping longer will not help you, as we apneans are not getting real sleep. "

" ok here in the states YES you CAN losse your licence BUT if you are compliant on the cpap you get it back ( i know i just went throught it) But you need to think of it this way if you are truley havving problems you are a danger on the roads and could kill someone if you fall asleep at the wheel sooooo no licence for a while or jail time for manslaughter? it IS veery fixable. " I have also heard that you could lose your license if you have narcolepsy or sleep apnea. I was just diagnosed with sleep apnea and am waiting for my appointment to see if I also have narcolepsy. In my case I was having some severe symptoms(including hallucinations)before I went to see the doctor. I havent driven in a while but thats because I KNOW that I could hurt someone else or myself if I drive and fall asleep(which happened before I was diagnosed). The state hasnt pulled my license but I know that they could, so I am serious about using my CPAP and following the night time routine that the doctor planned for me.

Good luck to you, and get the sleep study so you can get better. Sleep Apnea is serious stuff. Breathing is essential!!!!! "
