Just diagnosed and feeling relieved

Hi everyone, I have read alot of your comments in discussion and I can certainly relate to many of you. I have alot of health issues and this last year and half has been really tough but I am starting to feel relieved now that I can get some help with my sleeping problems. I have not slept for more than 2 hours in a row for many years now, and I ALWAYS wake up extremely tired. The tiredness went into my days and I fall asleep alot during the day. I could sleep forever if I was allowed. Anyway about 6 months back I started having alot of episodes during the day when I would fall asleep while doing stuff with my family, then I started acting things out during these episodes. Well eventually I was hallucinating but didnt remember the events, but my family video taped me(I was upset but not now). They were concerned that it was related to my pain meds and kept begging me to get off them. I did eventually get a spinal cord stimulator implanted and was able to reduce the meds alot but I still take some. Anyway a few months ago I was with my daughter and grandson when I had 3 very vivid hallucinations and it scared the crap out of me. I called my pain doctor, thinking it was med related and was told it was not and then I called my primary. I got in the next day to see him and he said he thought I was sleep deprived(I totally agreed but still scared). I recently had a sleep study and although I only slept 47% of the night I had very severe results. I wont get into the #'s but I will say they are so severe that I am extremely grateful that I will be fitted for the CPAP next Wednesday. I am still a bit anxious because the doctors are thinking I might also have narcolepsy as well. I have alot of mixed emotions right now and am trying to learn as much as I can about other peoples experiences so I will know better what to expect but mostly so I wont feel so alone.

Thanks for letting me ramble a bit, lol. If anyone has any advice I have open ears. Thanks and nice meeting you all, Christine :)

" Thanks everyone and yes it was scary Trish but now I have the CPAP and wear it every night and even when I nap... I havent seen any people that arent their or had any other hallucinations since the CPAP. This is something that really should be taken serious. I am just glad I had great support by my family and friends and here at DS. "

" I have been diagnosed with sleep apnea for 10 years now. My cpap has helped in so many ways. I travel with it too. Hate getting stopped at airports but well worth it.

I have also been diagnosed w/narcolepsy. So I have two things to deal with. Make that 3, being over weight does add to the problem. Trying to work on the weight issues now.

Glad you were diagnosed properly. More people have this problem than they know. "
