Severe Sleep Apnea and Weight Loss Surgery

I was diagnosed with severe sleep apnea a little over 5 years ago and am currently using a C-Flex Autopap machine at night. I had gastric bypass surgery in May and have lost approximately 60 lbs. so far.

My pulmonologist seems to think my sleep apnea is structural and it won't go away after I loose weight. I am hoping he is wrong. I will see him for my yearly followup appointment in November.

Has anyone here lost a lot of weight and had no change in their sleep apnea?

" I have it because my tongue (of all things) is too big and closes off the airway when I sleep. I found this out when I met with my first sleep apnea doctor a year ago. "

" I will let you know if my pressure goes down at all when I go for my 1 year followup appointment with the pulmonologist in November. I have been really tired lately and had to take a nap in my car last week at work. However, I don't think it's related to my sleep apnea. I have a autopap machine which adjust the pressure according to what I need. "
