I just had my first sleep study and boy what a horror show! I am glad that everything imporoved when I used the CPAP machine. I've learned so much about sleep apnea lately and the effects it has on your health. It's probably going to save my life!

I've learned that the most cases of sleep apnea go undiagnosed. That's sad! I've been thinking about writing a book or something to help people learn about sleep apnea. Something that would be fun for the average person to read as well as informative. I've got a few embarassing stories about sleep apenea. Stories about girlfriends leaving me because of it and neighbors complaining.

Does anyone else have any funny stories about their ordeal with sleep apnea?

" I just got an email from an old girlfriend who is a nurse. She said that awhile back during a nightshift when all the nurses were bored they watched my You Tube video. The CPAP Christmas Carol,

She said that they laughed and laughed and kept watching it over and over again and laugh some more. Should I feel insulted? I always suspected that nurse's are mean! "

" Well...everytime I see it I laugh and laugh. Maybe cus I can so identify. I think they should use your video when marketing the masks and equipment. When I went for my sleep study, they handed me a VHS to watch. It was all about the machines and stuff. I would have far more enjoyed your clip to theirs!
Keep the laughter coming Uther. We all need to laugh a bit! "

" My mask and headgear have gone all meshugana. I think that's a Yiddish word that means the same as the dirty word I shouldn't use on this site. The clip on my mask broke and I had to replace that and then the velcro on my headgear doesn't work anymore and I woke up the other day with the mask blowing in my ear. It's tornado season here and it gave me nightmares about being sucked up by a tornado. I woke up clicking my heels together screaming, "There's no place like home! There's no place like home!"

I found some velcro in the garage that my niece was using for some project a few years ago. Believe it or not, I'm not the kind of guy that has a needle and thread lying around so I stapled the velcro to the straps on my headgear. Talk about Redneck Engineering! It's working pretty well but I'm worried about cutting myself with the staples. I heard that necessity is the mother of invention but I figure, If the women don't find you handsome they should at least find you handy. "

" Uther, the velcro (especially the "barbed" side) will fill with hair, dust, stray thread, etc. after awhile. I use a long sewing needle (or you could use the sharp end of a long safety pin) to slide under all the debris and lift it up. This will bring it to the surface & then you can pull it off. You'd be suprised how much junk gets matted up there.

Instead of stapling on the velcro, you might want to pick up "industrial" velcro at the hardware store with the self-stick backing. Make sure it says INDUSTRIAL because the glue is much stronger. They have the 4" wide for about the same price as the 2.5" wide. I just bought some for a different project, and figured I can always cut the 4" wide to whatever size I need & have some left for future use (like fixing my CPAP perhaps?) "

" Thanks for the advice BeckyJo. I had been scraping the yucky stuff out of the velcro but it just got to be too much and worn down. I need to pick up a needle and thread but I keep forgetting and my sewing skills leave much to be desired. I'm suprised how well the staples are doing :>). I can tell that I'm sleeping better and I feel a lot better now that the mask stays on without leaking.

I'm afraid of industrial glue! Not so much because it might not work but because I'm afraid I'll permanently glue my finger to my nose or something. If that happened I would have to become a Hermit because I know how nurses like to laugh at people when they show up in the Emergency Room after doing stupid things like that. It would just be too embarassing. "

" I went fishing this weekend and I couldn't use my CPAP. This was the first time I wasn't able to. We camped quite a ways from anyone else but the next morning I was talking to a guy that said that someone's snoring was keeping him awake and scaring his kids.

Later that afternoon I took a hike to see exactly where this guy was camping. It was quite a ways away and I wondered if I snore that loud or if they are just light sleepers with super human hearing?

They should thank me for keeping the bears away! Selfish b*st*rds! "
