If you plan on using it long term you will need a prescription, but I am using omnaris nasal spray which has been very helpul. I've always had a problem with congestion. Also just plain saline nasal spray works you can even make it with salt and water. Also, you can use mucinex PE for the sinuses before you go to bed and that helps a lot. Hope you find something that helps. It's miserable using the cpap when your congested!

I use a saline nasal spray for congestion in the nose....but if you have a dry nose, try daubing inside your nose with vaseline. I use it every night, it doesn't seem to deteriate the nose piece (I use cushions), and I find it helps a LOT.
good luck d

I use a neti pot otherwise I think I'd use a saline nasal spray. I take enough other meds that I would hate to throw something else into the mix unless my doctor told me what to get. The neti pot works wonders for me and my sinuses!

I always found that the sprays don't last at all. There are nasal gels, two brands here in Canada are Secarus and Rhinaris. Even with the gels you have to use a generous amount to make it through the night.

Be very cautious about using Vaseline or petroleum jelly in your nose if you have lung problems. It can cause something called lipoid pneumonia. This articel from Mayo Clinic discusses lipoid pneumonia:

Plain old saline nasal spray (which should be available without a prescription) will do quite well. 2 spras each nostril every two to three hours while awake for about a week then two to three sprays each nostril immediately before and after CPAP application. If your unit has a heated humidifier on it, turn the heat setting up. If you do not have a heated humidifier- you need one.

My doctor put me on Astelin drops as I have allergies and am always stuffy/runny. It works awesome, but does require a prescription. Good luck.

I stopped using nose spray and decong. Didn't want the side effects. I irregate x2 daily with a neti pot and solution of 1/2 t. uniodized salt, 1/2 t. soda, 1 t. sugar or Karo, 1 qt water. Then I "snort" sesame oil from little finger tip. This combo is great. Now, at night I run a room humidifier (cool) in addition to the humidifier on CPAP. It is very dry here. I also run aromtherapy in a diffuser: 8 drops lavendar, 6 drops pine oil, 6 drops pine needle oil. It helps keep sinuses open and is mildly antiseptic to help avoid sinus infection. I love this combo. The only time I take anything for sinuses is when a front moves in and the air pressure changes.
