Extra Virgin Olive Oil

I was looking online for natural skin moisturizers. I remembered something about Sophia Loren and EVOO. I was reading about all of the antioxidant properties of EVOO. Then...............I stumbled upon a study done about Skin Cancer and Extra Virgin Olive Oil.

Here is a summary:

Mice that received Extra Virgin Olive Oil topically applied after UVB exposure (post-UVB group) showed significantly lower numbers of tumors per mouse than those in the UVB control group throughout the experimental period.

These results indicate that olive oil topically applied AFTER.... UVB exposure can effectively reduce UVB-induced murine skin tumors, possibly via its antioxidant effects in reducing DNA damage by reactive oxygen species, and that the effective component may be labile to UVB.

" That study looks promising. EVOO is a great skin moisturizer. I use it on my hands when they get really dry. I tried using it on my face at night, but it caused break-outs. After reading the study, I am going to start applying it after sun exposure. My son plays baseball and I'm out in the sun a lot with my sunshirt, hat, umbrella, etc. Now with this info., I have one more defense against skin cancer. Thank you!!! "
