CPAP & aromatherapy

I was internet surfing today and noticed that there is an aromatherapy system for the cpap machine. Has anyone ever tried it and if so what is your opinion on it?
It's the beginning of winter here and although I have gotten away from use of my machine, I think I will practice with it again as the built in humidifier helps with the dry air caused by the furnace running. I so do love falling asleep with scented oils and I do believe they help. Does anyone else believe in aromatherapy? (note: I also posted this one the fibro site) Posted on 11/07/09, 04:11 pm |

Hi SassieCat, I have questions for you rather than answers.
What are the scented oils in the cpap supposed to do? I use a cpap and never heard of aromatherapy with it. Also, do you mind if I ask why you don't use the machine in the winter? My doctor said to use it year round. It's ok if you don't want to answer this. Happy Thanksgiving, Susan

Susan,
I am TERRIBLE at using my cpap machine. I have had it for a few years and it still bothers me sometimes. I use it during the winter because of the humidifier. I tend to get away from using it during the spring time and it's a chore for me. I am supposed to use it all the time too. The aromatherapy is just for scent and the relaxing quality of breathing certain smells. I like to burn oils at night when I fall asleep as they seem to help me. I have alot of trouble falling asleep and use whatever means I can to help. Why do I tend to get away from the cpap? It annoys me that I have to constantly adjust it during the night. Either the nasal pillows slip or the straps that go around the head slip and the pillows move off. When this happens, it wakes me up and sometimes it is hard for me to fall back asleep. I can't wear the masks because of the feeling of being closed in. Happy Thanksgiving to you as well.
