Hi everyone

I think I need some help but I don't have anyone to talk to. No matter how hard I try I can't control my shopping. When I'm alone in a store I loose all control and I have to spend all my money. I used to ignore this "issue" but yesterday I managed to accept that I do have a problem. It sounds really silly, at least now.

Yesterday I had to buy a toothbrush. A toothbrush. Nothing more, nothing less. But as I was standing there I thought to myself: I'm buying a toothbrush, why not buy some floss? So I picked up some dental floss. Then I thought: "I have nothing to do today, I could color my hair!" So I bought dye. What soon followed was special shampoo, conditioner and another hair product I'm not quite sure how to use, dog shampoo, hair gel, showering gel and a few more things I'm to embarrassed to write down now.

In conclusion I spent around 50 dollars on a toothbrush.

Is there anyone out there with a similar problem? Thanks

~Filip

" Hi
Nice to see a guy on here (there are probably others I haven't checked yet!) I can relate to you.The 'out of control spiralling thing' and the fact you don't need these things.I do it with clothes.I have so many tops I just don't need but I feel the urge day after day or week after week buying new one's or even shop after shop per day.
Might be good to sit quietly for a while and think why you might be doing this? Are you bored, upset about something deep inside etc.Try to avoid the shops if possible. You can do it.I will say other things on my posts so I won't repeat myself. "

" Hi, I just joined and I read your story. I'm so glad I'm not alone! I, too, must spend every single penny I have. As a result, I'm not financially stable like I should be. Only my thing is purses...I'm desperate to get this under control. "

" Hi Filip,
I am new to this, too, and I do the same exact things. I feel like mine has gone unnoticed because I haven't been spending my money on big expensive things or even a bunch of clothes or shoes.. I spend it on things like hair products, lotions I never use, makeup I never use.. or even things like nakpins, toothpicks, and other small household items. Every time I go to the store, that same exact thing happens to me. I understand completely! "

" Hey there,

I have the same issue. I feel like well if I drove all the way to the store after spending an hour getting ready I might as well make it worth my while. Then I spend just to feel like i am doing something.

One thing that might help is if you to a smaller store next time you want something like a toothbrush as asking an associate to help you find it. Or only bring like 6 dollars with you so its harder to spend. Making a list and trying to stick to it helps "

" Hi. I do understand, and it suprizes me that its a guy. (nothing wrong with that) kinda a releife. Usually when you tell a guy u have this problem they look at you like your crazy. I would go to the mall and just go blindly into a store and shop. When I would get home and go threw the bags I wouldn't remember buying half the stuff. It didn't matter if I was in a clothing store or a drug store or food store. Just the high of spending money made me feel good. I do understand all too well of what u r going threw. "

" I have spent soo much money yet have nothing to show for it. It is very hard when your loved ones are asking where the money went and all i can say is "I dont know". "
