My sister-in-law, Debbie, has shingles - she live 12 hours away but i want to visit her. I asked my doctor for the vaccine, but he said it cost over $100 and I can't afford that. I had measles as a child, and he said that would insulate me from catching it. Is that true??
I can go to Mexico and get anything to help her but I don't know what to get. She lives in Utah and Colorado (has 2 houses). She said doctors there do not hand out pain meds like they do around here. Would Soma help? How about Viocidin? I want to help her. any suggestions? Posted on 10/06/09, 03:10 am |

It isn't measles that shingles comes from- its the virus that causes chicken pox. If you had chicken pox as a child you won't catch it
if you visit your sister in law. Shingles is not contagious (you can't catch shingles from her).. but if you never had chicken pox then you would want to wait to see her until her rash is gone. There are many meds used to treat the pain from shingles. Her doctor should provide what she needs. Good luck to you!
