Hi ,,I am Josie and just found this Group,,I am already on the FM group..

Well, I have the shingles at the moment since about 17days now,,started off with pain in my back around my lower back,,5days later I had a rash (itchy like crazy) so I went to see my doc ,,of course it was the shingles,,he gave me some pills I had to take for 7 days ,,couldn't take the last one it made me totally sick,,,anyway, the rash is almost gone,,still have dark spots,,an it still itches a bit but the skin pain is still there,,
My question,,will the pain go away and stay gone,,or can it come back as soon as I have stress again ??
This is some serious Pain :-( and painkillers don't really help much ,,just eases the pain a bit.

I've heard from my Doc that Shingles can NOT be totally cured ,,the MED just kind of put the virus back to "sleep"..

So, that means each time I'm under pressure and stress it could come back ??
thats scary ,,specially since i have also Fibromyalgia which is painful enough.

Josie

" Most people only get shingles once in their life. I found the pain gradually went away but was left with the itchiness on and off for a few months.
Take care. "

" I TOO HAD IT WHERE YOU DO. OR SHOULD I SAY STILL DO. AS FOR THE PAIN I FOUND THAT BLUE EMU HAS HELPED WITH THE PAIN. I HAVE HAD A LIGHT CASE OF IT. AND FROM WHAT I HAVE SEEN IF IT HAD HAVE BEEN A CASE WHERE I HAD BEEN MORE COVERED WITH IT I DON'T KNOW IF I COULD HAVE TAKEN IT AS WELL AS I HAVE. THE PAIN IS SOOO BAD AND I DID NOT WAIST MY TIME ON PAIN KILLERS BECAUSE OF THE SIDE EFFECTS AND FROM WHAT EVERYONE IS SAYING THEY DO NOT HELP THAT MUCH SO WHY DO IT! I HAVE A HIGH TOL. TO PAIN SO I GUESS THAT WITH THE LIGHT CASE THAT I HAVE I HAVE DONE OK. I HAVE HAD IT BOUT AS LONG AS YOU HAVE. I CAN SEE A LITTLE LITE AT THE END OF THE TUN. HOPE THAT YOU CAN TOO. I HAVE READ SO MANY DIFF. THINGS ON THIS THAT YOU REALLY DON'T KNOW WHAT TO MAKE OF ALL OF IT. I TOO HOPE THIS IS THE LAST I SEE OR FEEL OF THIS STUFF. HOPE THAT PART IS TRUE!!!!!!!!!!!!!! PRAYING FOR U. "

" Hi Josie. I have had fibro for a long time. Then I realized that it was linked to recurrent Shingles/PHN. Initially I was told I had a spider bite. I was not a normal case at all. There is a vaccine for this. Please read the posts on this. If this is your first time with it, the vaccine can stop any further outbreaks. Most people only do get Shingles once, but there are those of us who suffer many times. And, if you do get PHN, it is a nightmare. I know. I live with it everyday.
Please take care,
Colleen "

" Hi there.

I got shingles on my scalp and face in early July this year. The good news is that the pain should go away. From all I've heard, including several doctors I work with, they rarely come back, even though when reading the messages here, it sounds like it's quite common. You have to keep in mind though, that there are probably thousands of people who don't write in, so the stats here might be slightly skewed. What made sense to me, was that the docs explained that now that I've had the shingles, my immune system is probably a lot stronger to fight off the virus should it ever think of invading me again. That makes sense if you think about it. Sort of like getting the vaccine shot, but probably not as easy as that would have been. Also, my pain is gone, but I still scratch my scalp and forehead when it itches (which is more often than the left side of my face/head, but alas, the pain is gone. Good luck and don't despair or be discouraged by reading all these notes that indicate it comes back again and again. It's a rare occurrence from what I understand. Take care. BevAnneC "
