After 18 painful months, this is my 3rd week in a row with almost not pain, only a soft burning in my foot.

I hope and pray for this be the final part of this awful and terrible and almost endless neuropatic pain. When this PHN began, I didn't imagine that this living hell was going to be so long.

I have to confess that three months ago I took valtrex without permission of my doctor. I know that many months after the VZV infection makes no sense, but an aunt of me after 20 years of painful live, a doctor prescribed her valtrex and she's fine ok.

Don“t let the pain, panic you and depressed you... Sooner or later the pain will finish.

" One month with no pain. I think that is fantastic. Let's hope your pain does not come back. Blessings to the rest of us during these difficult times. "

" I'm so sorry! You would think after going away that long, you would stay pain free. I have been having a few days here and there where I had hardly any pain and didn't need an oxycodone- or I took one for a whole day. Then it seems when I have too much physical activity it comes back a little worse. It is very hard to cope with this sometimes. I know how you feel! "

" i saw my doctor and he is scheduling an injection to see if the pain will subside. i have had PHN for 18 months. i am taking narcotics, neurotin, cymbalta, ambien to maintain. depression is becoming a side effect. i am thinking of getting the shingles vacinne to see if that will reduce the pain. i have tried the zostrix cream and lidoderm patches. does anyone have any suggestions? should i see the root lady or witch doctor? "

" I had the vaccine because of PHN on my left side (without ever getting the rash) a week later I got the rash on my right side. They had said the vaccine wouldn't help when I already had it- but could prevent me from getting it again.
My doctor, along with the pain pills, Lyrica, Neurontin, gave me amitryptine (spelling?) which is an antidepresant and he said it also can help with nerve pain. I take it at bedtime and it helps me sleep through the night too! "
