After 18 painful months, this is my 3rd week in a row with almost not pain, only a soft burning in my foot.

I hope and pray for this be the final part of this awful and terrible and almost endless neuropatic pain. When this PHN began, I didn't imagine that this living hell was going to be so long.

I have to confess that three months ago I took valtrex without permission of my doctor. I know that many months after the VZV infection makes no sense, but an aunt of me after 20 years of painful live, a doctor prescribed her valtrex and she's fine ok.

Don“t let the pain, panic you and depressed you... Sooner or later the pain will finish.

" I have had the aftermath of shingles for over 4 years. I am now on lyrica that certainly makes it easier to do day to day chores. I am also hoping that this will eventually end. Good luck to all of you. "

" Congratulations on getting to this wonderful point! You give me hope that the PHN pain I have had for close to a year could someday go away. "

" The pain is back and the depression too. Has somebody tried alternative methods? My neurologist has simply gave up. "

" Hi let me say this to all. I got shingles back in 2004. When the pain goes away I too forget about it and say I am sooooo glad this is over. And then it comes back! And that is where the depression comes in. I sometimes go into denial and think this is over, now I am accepting this as what it is. PHN. PHN doesn't go away. If you just remember this you won't be surprised when the pain comes. I get a rash first, and then i brace myself for the pain:( i take Cymbalta for pain/Depression and Lyrica for pain. and Lidoderm for pain. And I have decided that I can do all things through Christ who strenghens me. I can handle this and you can too! Just try not to let it get you down. "

" I'm in the same boat as you "capapia". Although I just got off the Lyrica, I will never take that medication again. I'd rather be in full blown pain than to ever feel what that medication does to me. "

" Hi Kenna! What did Lyrica do to you? Did you have some bad side affects? I am wondering since I have been on it for a few months now. I feel sort of drugged up and fuzzy headed, but I am also taking Oxycodone every 4-6 hours and am not sure which med does this to me. "

" Hi Patty!! Lyrica works for some people. It made me so tired, I couldn't focus, and my withdrawls from just missing one dose made me feel horrible. I also had dizziness. I think I wrote a list on the side effects so I'll try to find it. It's pretty detailed. "

" I do get tired from the Lyrica but I think I am finally getting used to it. I used to have to go back to bed for 3 or 4 hours after I got up and took it in the morning.. I don't nap much now- so its ok. I know its helping me too- if I forget to take the next dose on time I feel the pain much worse. "
