" Sorry that you are going through the shingles pain & esp that you got given an ointment that hurt worse. There isnt one easy answer as different ointments help differnt people. My Dr told me to use the cortisone ointment I excema as it seemed to stop it getting infected. I have used pure aloe vera gel before, always make sure if buying aloevera that the first content listed is aloevera NOT water which some are. "

" I hope you feel better soon. Also, even if you read things that say Shingles mostly occurs in people over 50, I personally know 2 people who had it in their teens and I am not quite 50 either. So, don't feel alone.

I tried pure Aloe Vera and that did help a bit. I found that for me the important thing was to make sure that I didn't irritate the Shingles area by having it touch something rough. If your sheets are not soft enough, try wrapping your head and neck in something very soft, like a silk scarf. I used a silk pajama top ;-) Also keep the area cool, I used a bag of peas for a few minutes.

Take a look online or if you have a natural pharmacy or drug store near you, please try asking them.

Here is a link to one site that talks about remedies for the pain:

Also if the pain is really bad, ask your doctor for PAIN medication in addition to the drug you are taking to address the Shingles itself. I hope this helps and get better soon! "

" I'm new to this but, icepaks wrapped in wet washcloths really help and put real Aloe plant leaves or Real Aloe gel in fridge-feels good and helps you heal! This part will pass soon-avoid rubbing of hair and fabric and distract yourself! "

" Hi. That's pretty painful. I had shingles when I was sixteen. I'm twenty one now. Luckily you went to the doctor, I never went. Apparently I have a high pain tolerance because it was bad, really bad. I lost 45 pounds in two months and I was sick everyday. But at the time I avoided doctors at all costs. And it has been the biggest regret of my life. I wish I could give you some tips on what would help but I'm more familiar with PHN. Just want you to know you're not alone. Aftershingles.com is a good website. They might have some tips. Good luck, hope you find some relief! "
