Having my second attack. I waited to go to the Doctor, as it started off not too badly. I thought that I could handle it...well it has gotten worse. I am now taking the Valtrex. Have been on it for two days now. Have also got Lidocaine. (it says not to apply it less than 24 hours apart) I am still in a lot of pain. (the lidocaine helps a little bit - couldn't find the tree oil) For those of you on Valtrex? What is the procedure? How long does it take? Is there anything that can be inserted to relieve that pain when you urinate? Thanks for listening.

" i take acyclovir, which is the generic (cheaper) version of valtrex. when experiencing an outbreak, i take 400mgs twice a day. 2 pills a day for like 5 days. i think it works like a charm. best medicine i've tried.
pee pain - this is weird, but i popped a lil hole into the bottom of a dixie cup, folded the cup, and held it up there where you pee. ha. i know it sounds gross and weird but - it works! because you put it between your labia so you aren't hitting any skin when you pee! keep taking the valtrex too. it DOES work! " wait a minute- there is a generic for valtrex???? I was told they do not make a generic whatsoever, and therefore my insurance never covered the brand name-valtrex. I had to buy pill per pill per day b/c it was so damn expensive. i had no clue there was a generic????!!!???
does it work just as well? "

" it is generic ZOVIRAX. i think it is better than valtrex. http://www.nlm.nih.gov/medlineplus...

i don't even HAVE medical insurance. i pay about $50 for 60 pills and 400mgs and pill every time i fill my perscription! you should try it! i have tried brand name valtrex, but find that 400mg tablet of acyclovir is much better!
i go to cvs pharmacy to fill my perscription, each pharmacy is different so shop around.
when i had gone to planned parenthood, the first thing they gave me was acyclovir. that is odd that they wouldn't give it to you. "

" I also take acyclovir. It's also an antiviral medication, and as far as I know Wal Mart provides it at no cost to you. As far as the pain in your urine take some AZO standard and drink LOTS of water. The more you go the less painfull it is. I take Valtrex when it's available to me. I work for a GYN so we get the samples in all the time so I'm pretty happy with both Acyclovir and valtrex. They both work about the same for me. And like I said try to get your dr to call it into Wal Mart pharmacys because it's a no cost medication there. "

" Glad to hear that it helped you Alaska.....I guess that is what we are here for...we all seem to be in the same boat. I really don't have anyone to talk to about it, as I have not shared this news with anyone. So this is all I have. I find myself looking at others, and wondering if they have it or not, you know? And how they are dealing with it all, if they have it. Anyway, hang in there....if you want to talk or vent...we are here.
Take care. "
