Are any of you planning to see the movie Precious? I was reading a review about it, and it got 4 out of 5 stars. However, the main character is raped by her father and has two children by him, and is verbally and physically abused by her mother. I don't know that I'm mentally stronge enough to see the movie without it having a lasting negative effect on me, but I hope that it will help bring the sexual abuse/incest epidemic to light.

" I am definitely going to see the movie. I read the book years ago and I've been looking forward to the movie for a while. It's definitely going to be INTENSE so I'm planning on having some comforting things ready for me at home.

I am always very skeptical about how much good these movies do. Sometimes I think it's just for the sensational factor, people leave feeling shocked, but in their minds it's still just a movie and not their reality. I hope not and I hope it encourages survivors to speak out. "

" You're probably right about people thinking it's just a movie, and not realizing that things like that go on in real life. Oprah seems very supportive of the film and since she's an incest victim herself, maybe she'll be able to use her fame to open the public's eyes. I'm keeping my fingers crossed, anyway! "

" Maybe read the book ("Push" by Sapphire) first, because it's easier to put a book down and walk away, and come back later if you want to. I'm excited Hollywood's tackling such a hard topic but worried if they'll do it well. I guess "well" is relative to the viewer anyway. Let us know what you think if you see it. "
