SEXUAL ABUSE SURVIVORS
I’ve set up an anonymous voice mailbox for sexual abuse/assult survivors to tell their story as a part of an art therapy project. (641) 715 - 3900 extension 1193567# There are a lot of people who have no one to talk to about their abuse or aren’t ready to join a support group – or can’t afford therapy. This hotline is for you to actually TELL your story out loud without the fear of speaking to someone face-to-face, but also with the knowledge that someone out there will compassionately listen! Background about me: I’m in my early 20’s and I’m a fellow survivor of sexual abuse – also an artist. I’m just beginning to address my history of abuse through this art therapy project. I’m calling upon other survivors to help me with this project, and hopefully help yourself along the way. The problem for me is that I can’t vocalize my story. I shut down – I even beat around the bush with my therapist. So I’ve made myself a promise – If a hundred survivors are strong enough to share their story with me – I will call the hotline myself and verbalize my story, and hopefully be strong enough to continue from there. Once again, the VM box is anonymous. I chose a system that doesn’t archive the caller’s phone number / info. The only thing I have is the audio recording you leave. I'm sorry that the number's not toll free by the way. But you can always call from a cell phone at odd hours - like during free nights and weekends, etc.
